We are seeking an individual to fill the role of Polyethylene (“PE”) Financial Analyst. You will have the opportunity to work in a changing and collaborative environment where you can influence and positively impact the organization. In this highly visible and upwardly mobile role, you will provide financial expertise and guidance in compiling, analyzing and interpreting information to support effective and timely decision making by a cross-functional PE business management team. This career opportunity will be located at the USCC in Moon Township, PA and will report directly to the Polyethylene Business Controller.

 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Seek opportunities to maximize profitably and optimize working capital through the supply chain
  • Be accountable for the PE business financial month-end close process and related management reporting
  • Monitor performance of PE Business Team scorecards ̶ providing insights and recommendations for improvement to key stakeholders
  • Maintain financial models for the PE business to support the 10Q rolling forecast and Annual Business Plan (“ABP”) process
  • Be a valued member of the Finance, S&OP and Analytics Center of Excellence Teams --sharing tools, learnings, analysis and working collaboratively to standardize approaches to common challenges.

Specifically, the candidate will:

  • Create analytical models (such as EBITDA and working capital models) across all PE assets to:
    • Identify and understand how to maximize profitability and optimize balance sheet impacts, as well as identify and understand constraints
    • Provide financial insights related to margin, fixed and variable costs, that drive sound PE business team decisions resulting in improved financial results
  • Recommend and implement new financial analysis modelling tools and techniques for the PE business, perform sensitivity analysis to optimize financial results and identify issues and risks along with proposed mitigation and remediation including financial impacts
  • Determine the type and structure of reports needed to best communicate the information to a cross-functional business team.
  • Establish and report on industry benchmarks and identify continuous metric improvements
  • Be a key member of the Finance Olefins/Polyolefins (“OPO”) reporting group, developing and implementing SAP and BPC financial reporting and processes for the PE business
  • Serve as a financial subject matter expert for the PE business – providing expertise and guidance in compiling, analysing and interpreting financial information for management decision making and compliance with internal/external requirement and regulation
  • Prepare and analyze reports/information associated with monthly management reporting and inputs for Board reports
  • Gather and analyze information for monthly variance explanations which may involve preparing various schedules, reports and analyses for distribution to internal customers
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts (and may make adjusting entries) to ensure account balances are complete, correct and in compliance
  • Prepare PE business financial statements, including financial information, metrics and analysis by asset
  • Review monthly inventory valuation and cost of goods sold entries including LCM review and entries
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to support PE business initiatives and strategies
  • Supports 10Q rolling forecast and ABP processes for revenues, variable and fixed costs
  • Work cross-functionally and serve as a resource for internal/external customers, presenting or providing timely and accurate accounting and financial information to PE Business leadership, OPO Finance and Corporate Accounting
  • Fulfil requests for information with internal and external audit
  • Complete ad-hoc and special projects, as assigned
  • Handle a diverse range of complex assignments requiring the use of experience, innovation and judgment
  • Analyze large volumes of data which requires attention to detail while operating under tight deadlines
  • Provide informal leadership and development to plant accountants

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field of study with 10+ years of related experience, and continued professional development
  • Accounting designation preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS/GAAP
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates an aptitude to understand complex processes and computerized financial and operational systems, significant and demonstrated SAP and BPC experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to effectively interact with and provide quality customer service to both internal and external customers

As a Laboratory Technician you will be a member of the Manufacturing West Quality Services team at the NOVA Chemicals Joffre Site. In this role you will be working a 12 hour rotating shift providing Quality Control/Quality Assurance support to 4 Polyethylene production lines.

 

 

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will be required to work a 12 hour rotating shift with the following responsibilities: 

  • Adhere to all applicable NOVA Responsible Care Standards and expectations.
  • Perform routine and non-routine testing for in-process and finished polyethylene product using Melt Indexers, in Lab OCS optical equipment, FTIR, densimeters, hydraulic presses, and others as per procedures.
  • Perform polyethylene testing using on line instrumentation as per procedures. This includes, the operation, troubleshooting and data interpretation/ management associated with 4 At-Line OCS systems.
  • Perform chemical analysis of process and product samples using gas chromatographs, and other wet chemistry methods.
  • Work collaboratively with operations to make real time decisions regarding product disposition.
  • Generate and analyze statistical data to maintain quality control of existing equipment and testing procedures.
  • Troubleshoot all major pieces of equipment and perform routine maintenance.
  • Operate and understand the basic theory associated with all instrumentation in the lab, and calibrate all instruments in the lab.
  • May be required to take on project development or a day role as per the lab progression system.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide team leadership. 

This position will be on a shift schedule working 12 hour days and night shifts.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Technologist diploma or Science University degree.

Our Technology center at NOVA Chemicals is seeking qualified candidates for the Mechanical Engineer EIT position.

 

This position is with the Fluid Dynamics team at the NOVA Chemicals Research & Technology Centre in Calgary, Alberta.
As a member of
this team you will provide research support to NOVA Chemicals Olefin and Polyolefin businesses as well as TransCanada Pipeline Ltd. through an ongoing research program.

 

Responsibilities: 

This is a challenging position, which requires a strong knowledge of fundamental Mechanical Engineering principles and skills in analytical and simulation methods to carry out research projects in related areas. Research experience and knowledge with experimental techniques including data processing is considered an asset.

 

  • Development of analytical techniques and computational methods to solve specific problems;
  • Provide first cut analysis of data; and
  • Prepare internal technical reports and external papers for conferences and journal publications.
  • Construct and operate high-pressure natural gas test rigs at the TCPL Gas Dynamic Test Facility in Didsbury, AB.
  • Design and construction of experiments and test rigs in collaboration with senior engineers;
  • Operate various test rigs, which include above ground piping systems, conventional and specialized instrumentation, static and high-speed dynamic measurements, gas flow metering, and respective data acquisition systems.
  • Ensure accuracy of results. Identify unusual trends. Recommend and take agreed upon corrective actions.
  • Suggest improvements to numerical approach, equipment, procedures and processes.
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures and participation in safety related activities such as the Management of Change processes.

Qualifications:  

The successful candidate will posess a MSc (or BSc with 1-3 years related experience) in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Science or equivalent. In Canada, registered Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with relevant provincial association is highly desirable.

  • Development of solution techniques, design and construction of experiments and test rigs to solve specific problems/opportunities;
  • Ensure accuracy of results. Identify unusual trends. Recommend and take agreed upon corrective actions;

The position provides the opportunity for a new graduate to participate in our Technical Development Program that allows chemical engineers to rotate through some of the following roles early in their career with NOVA. Rotating through a number of these areas allows the engineer to develop technical breadth and exposure to various plant operations that greatly helps with selecting an area of specialization for their career.

Process Design Engineering: The design engineer is accountable for process design for new facilities or modifications and ensures compliance with applicable NOVA and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, equipment sizing and specification, development of heat and material balances, safety and hazard reviews, process specification, problem solving and optimization.

 

Operations/Contact Engineering: The contact engineer is assigned to an operations area and works closely with the Operations and Reliability teams on a daily basis to provide technical and troubleshooting support. Responsibilities include providing technical recommendations to improve and optimize plant operation, maintain compliance with Responsible Care Standards and lead and/or assist in incident investigations.

 

Process Safety Engineering: As a member of the regional process safety team the Process Safety Engineer will take the lead on qualitative and quantitative risk analysis for a variety of risk studies and project risk assessments. This person also participates in the annual facility Hazard Assessment program (PHA) and various Process Safety Management policies, metrics, and management systems to enhance site performance.

 

Environmental Engineering: The environmental engineer supports the manufacturing sites with collection, analysis and trending associated with Environmental Programs. This position requires an understanding of monitoring program fundamentals, including field sampling methods, laboratory analytical techniques, and electronic data management along with statistical analysis tools to assimilate large quantities of data into clear and concise reports.

 

Process Control Engineering: The Process Control Engineer monitors plant control system performance and develops automation strategies for plant optimization. This includes designing and tuning control loops, building steady state process models for optimization, evaluating new opportunities for advanced control, developing new multivariable control applications, and enhancing existing applications.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering with eligibility for P. Eng. registration.
  • Strong desire to work for a petrochemical company in a process plant setting.
  • Previous coop or intern experience will be seen as an asset.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0.

As a member of the Manufacturing East Responsible Care team, you will be responsible for the effective application of the occupational safety and emergency preparedness and response programs across Manufacturing East. This role plays a key part in maintaining regulatory compliance and participates in all internal and external audits.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and administers comprehensive and effective occupational safety and emergency response plans, procedures, programs and measurements
  • Provides clarification on Regulatory and Company procedures and policy requirements as well as ensures Regulatory reporting and Compliance monitoring

  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), knowledge of Fire Safety Codes, Incident Management Systems (IMS), Reg224, CEPA and various NFPA or applicable designations would be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Code.
