Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator., The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid drivers license

    Overview

    As an Operations Technician at our Corunna Site in Manufacturing East, the successful candidate will be required to work on a seven (7) day, twelve (12) hour rotating schedule and participate as a contributing member in a shift team environment.

     

    The primary activities will encompass safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the facility on a continuous basis. The technician is expected to advance to the top of the progression program as outlined in the Process Operations progression requirements, including the attainment of required certifications.

     

    General Responsibilities for Operating Technicians:

    • Operating the unit in a safe, efficient, cost effective and reliable manner.
    • Ensuring NOVA Chemicals’ safe work practices and policies are maintained at all times.
    • Monitoring unit conditions on an ongoing basis and carryout troubleshooting steps to address identified issues.
    • Entering SAP notifications for any equipment related problems.
    • Operating the Distributed Control System (DCS) of the process and associated equipment.
    • Completing progression requirements to become proficient in the operation of the unit.

    Qualifications:

    • Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technology (CPET) Diploma or equivalent and have a minimum 4th Class TSSA Operating Engineering Certification.
    • Computer efficiency is essential.
    • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot operating problems.
    • An absolute commitment to Responsible Care.
    • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technical concepts in a timely manner.
    • The ability to work effectively and contribute within a team environment.
    • Strong problem solving / analytical skills.
    • The ability to take initiative and be proactive in actions.
    • The ability to complete multiple tasks in a fast paced, stressful environment.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

     Comments:

    • These positions will work on a seven (7) day, twelve (12) hour rotating schedule both indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
    • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units.
    • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license.
    • As part of progression requirements, the successful candidate will be required to obtain 3rd Class TSSA Operating Engineering Certification within defined timelines
