    The Joffre site is currently seeking two Process Engineers to fill Improvement Engineering positions. These roles are on two different teams, described below: 

    •  The Manufacturing Infrastructure (MI) technical team, supports the reliable delivery of quality utilities to the Joffre Olefins and Polyolefins plants, managing the influent and effluent water for the site and providing support for the different water treatment processes including cold lime softening, demineralization, potable water and sanitary sewage.
    • The AST1 Process Engineering Team supports the operation of this polyethylene business unit to maintain safe reliable operations and maximize production, on-stream time and product quality.

     

    In these roles you will be a member of the MI and AST1 Improve Multi-Discipline Team (IMT), respectively. As a member of the IMT, you contribute to determining unit priorities to address technical backlogs by working with various disciplines (Technical, Operations, and Maintenance). You will also provide process engineering design support to other discipline backlogs. 

     

    Responsibilities: 

    • Facilitate and participate in risk and hazard assessments to support projects and operating activities
    • Management of Change (MOC) and Facility Change Management (FCM)
    • Lead multi-discipline teams in the development and implementation of unit expense projects and trials.
    • Develop the scope of work and business cases for capital project ideas and support the development and implementation.
    • Determine root causes of significant operating problems via data analysis, sound engineering principles, field inspections / testing, etc.
    • Identify and evaluate improvement opportunities in the areas of Responsible Care, cost, reliability, and capacity
    • Support plant turnarounds, and other special initiatives as required. (in the MI role, this specifically includes: cooling water system passivation coordination)
    • Coverage of the responsibilities of other unit process engineers, as required.

    Qualifications: 

    The successful candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, plus 5-10 years of relevant plant based engineering experience.  In addition, the successful candidate will possess:

     

    • Demonstrated passion and commitment to Responsible Care
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks in very fast paced environment
    • Ability to lead and use structured troubleshooting tools and processes to solve technical problems and prevent re-occurrence
    • Excellent at reading and using PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, control narratives and other engineering documents to understand process design and operation
    • Demonstrated computer skills with experience in analyzing data; specifically, strong Microsoft Excel Skills including use of Aspen Process Data Retrieval Functions and ability to program macros using VBA
    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is preferred, candidates without their P.Eng, but currently eligible for APEGA certification may also be considered.  

     

    While there are similarities in these roles, candidates with the following experience will be preferred for the MI position:

    • Experience with water treatment (municipal, industrial or from petroleum field operations). Water treatment experience should include a basic understanding of water chemistry, filtration, microbiology, corrosion and various municipal and Industrial water processes.
