    We are hiring in two areas; the Technical Services team, which is our sustaining capital group who focus on the successful development and execution of high quality projects for the specific business units at the Joffre site; and the Reliability team, which directly supports the operation of a specific plant, focusing on troubleshooting, failure analysis, asset strategy development and focused improvement projects. More details about each area are described below.

     

    Project Mechanical Engineer

    As part of the Technical Services team the primary responsibility of the Project Mechanical Engineer is to support sustaining capital projects from concept to completion. The Mechanical Engineer will work in a team environment under project constraints to develop mechanical engineering work packages that result in completed projects that are safe, reliable, cost effective and meet project objectives.  Key aspects of the role include:

    • Project scope development, mechanical design and technical ownership (stamping) for unit expense and sustaining capital projects through NOVA’s Project Development and Implementation (PD&I) process. This may include, but is not limited to drawings, work packages, equipment specification, data sheets and engineering QA/QC. May take on the role of Project Manager for single discipline and micro projects
    • Conduct technical assessments, feasibility assessments and code calculations to optimize mechanical design with respect to operability, reliability and maintainability
    • Work collaboratively with our External Engineering Providers as NOVA’s discipline representative, to ensure efficient, timely and quality deliverables back to the NOVA project team
    • Work with Suppliers to optimize equipment specification and procurement
    • Provide informal leadership and oversight to Piping/Mechanical Designers
    • Work collaboratively with unit Operations, Maintenance and Technical teams to clarify scope, business opportunities and potential solutions, engaging the unit Mechanical Reliability Engineer to ensure alignment of scope and project deliverables 

    Mechanical Reliability Engineer

    As part of the Polyolefins Reliability Engineering team, the Mechanical Reliability Engineer is responsible for support and improvement of static equipment in the Joffre Polyolefin facilities.  The goal of this position is to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while supporting demands related to maintaining safe, reliable and competitive operation.  Key aspects of the role include:

    • Direct technical leadership and support for troubleshooting of equipment failures, determining root causes and identifying actions to prevent reoccurrence.
    • Development and review of work scope for unit outages and major turnarounds
    • Developing and managing the reliability strategy for static mechanical assets, including the selection of technologies for preventive and predictive maintenance programs
    • Leading and/or participating in the use of analytical tools to ensure optimal practices are applied to equipment using established reliability methods such as RBI, RCM, FMEA, RCFA, Crow–AMSAA plots, Weibull analysis, RAM modeling etc.
    • Collaborating with Maintenance, Operations, Inspections, Engineering, and Turnaround teams to identify and lead mechanical focused improvement initiatives
    • Provide project design and management for unit expense improvement projects through the facility change management process.
    • Applying developed Continuous Improvement and Lean Six Sigma methods to define, measure, analyze, improve and control key projects to improve asset availability and capability

    Qualifications:

    To be successful in this role, we need you to be a Professional Engineer with a strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering in a plant environment.
