We are seeking a Process Development Engineer who will couple their fundamental knowledge of chemical engineering, catalysis and kinetics with their reaction/process engineering skills to develop and scale-up new process technology and/or new catalysts to support of our growth projects. This position will be located in Sarnia, ON. at our St. Clair River Site.

     

    Responsibilities: 

    Applying the principles of process engineering, the successful candidate will:

    • Employ process simulation and thermodynamics software as required;
    • Specify, design, install, and commission new equipment/technology required to scale-up processes and support R&D programs;
    • Evaluate and design unit/equipment modifications;
    • Conduct process and catalyst development experiments at pilot plant scale;
    • Troubleshoot units and equipment;
    • Monitor and optimize the efficiency, output, and safety of the pilot plant operations;
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from the lab, pilot plant, and commercial operations;
    • Apply and/or develop reactor or process models;
    • Ensure that all aspects of process operations meet specified internal and external regulations/standards including safety and environmental regulations/standards;
    • Interface with the research team, program leaders, pilot plant engineers and operations to develop technical targets;
    • Develop Experimental Operating Instructions (EOI) for pilot plant experiments, document and present results;
    • Manage R&D programs;
    • Leverage and work collaboratively with others to efficiently achieve general interest team solutions;
    • Participate in cross-discipline scale-up and commercial operation teams to ensure smooth new technology handoff;
    • Originate novel patentable concepts, leading to the development of intellectual property assets.

    Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering with 5-15 years of relevant related experience in the areas of process design, research, operations and manufacturing;
    • Knowledge in the following areas is preferred:
      • Process/product development and scale-up;
      • Reactor development and design
      • Competitive technology analysis
      • Project leadership
      • Polymerization processes knowledge
      • Kinetic model development and application experience
      • Intellectual property assessment;
    • Demonstrated experience in plant operations is preferred;
    • Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
