We are seeking a Research Scientist to support our growth projects.

     

    This role will be a member of the New Catalyst and Polymers R&D team at the Centre for Applied Research (CAR). This team is responsible for the development of new catalysts that lead to olefin feedstocks and/or to new polyethylene-based polymers with improved performance characteristics.

     

    Responsibilities: 

    • Design and execute experimental plans which lead to new catalysts for olefin feedstocks;
    • Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams to execute R&D projects in heterogeneous catalyst and process discovery to enable efficient and sustainable access to olefin feedstocks;
    • Search publicly available literature and review nascent chemical technology for feasibility in commercial processes;
    • Research, develop, and propose bold, innovative projects with incorporation of sound decision and risk analysis;
    • Be an integral part of a high-performance team through teaching, sharing, collaboration, and communication with all parts of the organization.

     

    Qualifications: 

    • PhD in Chemistry with a strong background in heterogeneous catalyst design and synthesis (knowledge in electro-chemistry is considered an asset);
    • Physical and chemical characterization of surface and solid-state chemistry phenomena;     
    • Performance testing of heterogeneous catalysts under batch or continuous process conditions;
    • Proven ability to influence peers, work effectively in a high performing team, and work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment;
    • Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills;
    • Self-motivated and creative;
    • A demonstrated commitment to Responsible Care.
