    As a member of the Technology Leadership Team (TLT), the successful candidate will work collaboratively with other groups (Manufacturing East Leadership Team, Financial Planning, Engineering Leadership) and have accountability for delivering results through the safe operation and continual improvement of our facilities, consistency of business case analysis across the Technology portfolio, safe and flawless execution of Capital Projects and preparation of the overall Technology portfolio.

     

    Reporting to the Vice-President, Technology this role will provide leadership for the Technology Operations Department including:

     

    1. Technology Services Team (Capital Projects, Maintenance, Technology IT Support and Material Handling);
    2. Analytical Team (Scientists and Technologists);
    3. Technical Scale Facilities (3 operating units providing catalyst manufacturing and Polyethylene synthesis via gas phase and solution processes at technical scale);
    4. AST Pilot Plant Team (pilot scale solution polymerization process unit and the operators, and engineers who support it);
    5. Leadership of Technology Process Safety and focal point for Responsible Care;
    6. Business Analysts – Responsible for the overall Technology Portfolio provided to the NOVA Management Board and support to the Technology Decision Boards in the form of both business cases and portfolio support.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Leads consolidation of the Technology Research Portfolio utilizing consistent 1NOVA portfolio management practices. This includes coordination of the Capital Portfolio;
    • Liaises with the Polyethylene (PE) R&D team to enable effective planning and utilization of the PE scale up facilities;
    • Provides oversight to the Leadership of the Pilot Plant facilities and maintains relationships with the Manufacturing East Region Technical leadership;
    • Leads Technology’s Responsible Care initiatives including Process Safety;
    • Supports the implementation and maintenance of our 1NOVA operations practices (e.g. Continuous Improvement) in Technology;
    • Builds and maintains relationships with external benchmarking organizations to ensure research best practices and portfolio management techniques are being effectively leveraged into NOVA Chemicals’ Technology.

     

    Qualifications:

    The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science with a minimum of ten to fifteen years’ proven experience in leading teams the areas of Operations, Managing research, Capital and Tactical Portfolios.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated capability to bring Innovative thinking to R&D and the capacity to grow into other TLT roles.

    In addition, the desired candidate will have:

    • Demonstrated excellence in leading teams and across functional boundaries;
    • Advanced knowledge of research best practices and portfolio management techniques;
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills;
    • A demonstrated commitment to Responsible Care.
