Overview

The primary responsibility of this Process Control Engineer (PCE) position is to provide process control expertise and support to the Geismar facility. The candidate will be responsible for advanced and complex process control on the unit, including, but not limited to APC and DCS.

This role will be focused on long-term improvement objectives, but will also have responsibilities for run & maintain support. The PCE will be an essential developer and implementer of initiatives aimed at generating step changes in unit performance. The PCE will also be accountable to ensure that base-layer control, complex control, and advanced process control performance is maximized.

The PCE will work with other members of the Technical Services and NOVA Process Control teams to enhance the advanced control strategy, as well as understanding corporate process control requirements to ensure compliance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement changes that improve the console operators’ ability to run the unit
  • Assist in improvement initiatives in the complex control and APC areas.
  • Provides expert support for the control systems.
  • Responsible for lifecycle status, and develop diagnosis concept and periodic health check of installed base control systems.
  • Develop and maintain long-term control system migration plans for their assigned plant with the Production Technologist, Specialists and Technicians.
  • Provides expertise as a resource in Advanced Process Control. This provides a resource for any area Model Predictive Control systems.
  • Perform advanced control and graphic configuration on systems.
  • Participate with Process Control peer groups.
  • Identify and implement changes to improve operator’s ability to run the unit
  • Work with key stakeholders to enhance the advanced control strategy
  • Understand corporate process control requirements and ensures compliance

 

Qualifications:

 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical) coupled with 10 years’ of experience in manufacturing and/or process controls.

In addition, the successful candidate will have:

  • Experience with process modelling and predictive control techniques.
  • Honeywell DCS experience and Advanced Process Control experience.
  • Experience in AOA development and management.
  • Ability to manage the support of multiple initiatives with varying timelines is critical to success in this position. Candidate should demonstrate a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

 

Note:

  • This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • This role will be required to participate in unscheduled and scheduled unit upsets, startups and turnaround activities. Shift work and/or off schedule work for short periods of time can be expected in these situations.
